BSCO 4th of July 5K goes VIRTUAL
Fans of Big Sky Community Organization’s annual 4th of July 5k can still lace-up their running shoes and don their favorite costumes. Although, the race will be going virtual this year due to COVID-19.
“The best part is that you can run your own 5K anywhere, letting you support the parks, trails, and recreational programming even if you're not able to be in Big Sky this summer,” Sara Marino BSCO’s Community Development Manager wrote in an email.
Participants can run a 5K of their choice anytime between June 17th - July 4th. BSCO organizers encourage everyone to have fun with it: “jog with strollers, bring your dogs, run laps in your backyard, wear costumes, especially on the 4th of July! When you're done, upload your time and see how you fared against your friends or friendly rivals.”
Big Sky resident Robbeye Hunt Samardich has celebrated many a 4th of July with the BSCO 5K.
“I enjoy the camaraderie and community spirit,” she said. “My 7 year old daughter Parker has raced in a few and I think we have another runner in the family. This year, we are headed on a camping trip over the 4th and may enjoy an alternative event – maybe a paddle board race!”
Marino notes that while the pandemic has forced changes in daily lives, BSCO’s commitment to managing and caring for parks, trail and the community center project has not changed as the organization seeks to support the physical and mental well-being of the community through yearround programming.
“By participating in this virtual race, YOU are helping to make that happen,” she wrote.
