New place opens for closings
Shannon Sears takes the reins at Big Sky’s only full-time title and escrow office
Shannon Sears may be merely 30 years old, but she’s got the professional drive to succeed that recently landed her a position as escrow officer at the newly opened Montana & Title Escrow in Big Sky. After nine months of training in Bozeman, she recently opened her doors to those who need assistance with real estate titles and with closing real estate transactions.
Sears’ professional career began back in her homeland of Texas, where after college she found herself in the corporate, downtown Dallas world doing business development for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
But something inside her told her that the corporate city life wasn’t the life she wanted, so she called up her brother who was living in Bozeman. He told her to get out to Montana, and three years ago the siblings moved to Big Sky together. Their parents followed, eventually purchasing a home in Gallatin Gateway, “So now, my family unit is here,” she said. “Big Sky is my new home.”
Her first job in Big Sky was in concierge at the Yellowstone Club, a position she enjoyed, but when she was approached by Montana Title to apply for the newly-created escrow officer position in Big Sky, she jumped at the chance.
“They’ve had awesome success in Bozeman, and the market is just booming right now, so they wanted to expand to Big Sky, to also start serving Madison County in addition to Gallatin County,” said Sears, who staffs the Town Center office Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. “It’s what Big Sky is lacking. We don’t have a single title company that’s full-time, so it’s a unique opportunity. There’s a need to have that resource here.”
Even those who have gone through a real estate transaction and have experienced the process—even those folks often do not fully understand what title and escrow entail.
“That’s the interesting thing about it,” said Sears. “Almost everybody needs it, at some point in their life, but might not know what it is. We make sure that we review a property’s history, make sure there are no liens, or if there are, we address those, and prior to closing, we exchange any money, and pay any parties that need to be paid through closing.”
Sears also hopes to expand her clientele, eventually hiring more staff for the office as things pick up. She aspires to align herself with others working to make Big Sky a thriving community.
On Aug. 21, Sears will host the Big Sky Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours event, where chamber members and the community are invited to stop by from 5-7 p.m. and check out the new office while mingling over drinks, snacks and a raffle.
Montana Title & Escrow is located next to Grizzly Outfitters at 11 Lone Peak Drive, #102.
