Seeking creative solutions

The culmination of six months of work equals an additional option for renters and homeowners in Big Sky. A new website through the LandingLocals platform will  allow “local workers have an easier time finding long-term rentals,” Big Sky Community Housing Trust (BSCHT) Executive Director Laura Seyfang explained.

“Instead of using FaceBook and Craigslist, which have limited features, this site will give those searching for rentals a professional way to find available housing,” she said. “We also hope to motivate more owners of vacation units to try renting long term instead of listing as short term rentals.”

Prospective renters fill out a profile and are pre-approved to rent available homes.

Homeowners can visit and list vacation rentals for free in order to be connected with pre-screened local employees seeking housing. The service can also connect owners to property management services, Seyfang noted.

This effort was created to find solutions to what is considered a worsening problem – long-term rentals have shifted to short-term and workers struggle to find available and affordable housing.

“As a result, employers can’t find workers, or their employers endure long commutes and expensive housing,” a BSCHT press release stated.
