Substation meetings continue

Anyone interested in catching up with the latest on NorthWestern Energy’s plan to build a new mid-mountain substation can drop in on the June 7 meeting at the Big Sky Water and Sewer District conference room at 5:30 p.m.

The public is welcome, but the gathering is a work session for the “Exploratory Team,” which is tasked with discussing community concerns and beginning the “analysis and feedback” phase of the process, according to a NorthWestern website tracking the project. The team is looking at two locations for the new mid-mountain substation and three design options, including a Gas Insulated Substation. This GIS option can be enclosed to protect the surrounding viewshed, but it costs more than the traditional and low-profile traditional options.

“The next meeting is going to be focused on looking at the renderings that are going to be developed,” said Dr. Eric Austin, a facilitator with MSU’s Burton K. Wheeler Center. “These meetings are very much a working meeting for the group. But they are open to the public.”—DM
