Both Bighorn teams had to overcome an incredible amount of adversity this year. Both teams managed to achieve a lot of great things as well as representing their school honorably. They fought through every single game and repeatedly put forth performances that they could be proud of. Great work this season everyone.
The Big Horns faced the West Yellowstone Wolverines in their final regular season games. Both the boys and girls teams kept in-step with the Wolverines the first and second quarters. After the half the boys lost momentum, falling to West.
It has been a busy few days for Big Horns basketball players and fans. The Lone Peak Big Horns boys basketball team bested their longtime West Yellowstone rivals during a nail-biter of a game. Big Horns Head Coach John Hannahs explained that the Wolverines were not quite as ferocious since they were short of players.
The Big Horns Varsity boys solidly battled against the Gardiner Bruins. Aside from a second quarter slump, the boys showed real grit, including a nail biter of a third quarter. The varsity girls rallied after a sluggish first quarter and maintained that determination until the final buzzer.
The Lone Peak Varsity Big Horns home basketball games against White Sulphur Springs Hornets on Jan. 26 showed the Big Horns’ mettle. It was a closely contested game for the boys during the first half, but the Big Horns surged ahead after a halftime rally.
Lone Peak High School (LPHS) Lady Bighorns Junior Varsity basketball games have been canceled for the remainder of the season. COVID-19 has proven a headache for early season athletics. Harrison/Willow Creek and Lima games were canceled due to the team being under quarantine. The Jan. 9 match against Ennis is being rescheduled.
COVID-19 has surfaced as an early obstacle of the 2021 Lady Bighorns Basketball season. Several critical practices were cancelled and the first game will need to be rescheduled due to a positive test result on the team, head coach Taylor Cummings explained.
Lone Peak High School (LPHS) Varsity Bighorns Basketball seniors Michael Romney, Nolan Schumacher, Mickey Botha and Jackson Lang and junior Tony Brewster will be instrumental for the 2021 season, according to coach and LPHS Athletic Director John Hannahs.
